Water Management

On asphalt and composition shingle roofs, the attachment normally penetrates the roof covering to reach an approved structural fixing point. The weather detail therefore needs to shed water around the penetration and use the sealing method required by the mounting system and roofing conditions.

  • Traditional flashing is typically integrated with the shingle courses so water sheds over the attachment area.
  • Top-mount systems use their own tested sealing interface and installation sequence.
  • Fastener size, embedment, torque and seal method must follow the selected attachment documentation.
  • Roof condition should be reviewed before installing PV over aged or damaged shingles.
